Arrest History in Lavaca County
Lavaca County arrest records begin with the agency that made the arrest. That may be the Lavaca County Sheriff's Office, a police department in Hallettsville, Moulton, Shiner, or Yoakum, a constable, or Texas DPS. The arresting agency writes the offense or arrest report. If a person is taken to the Lavaca County Jail, the jail then records intake facts, the arresting and confining agencies, the charge received at booking, court details, and bond information.
These layers must not be read as one final history. An intake charge is preliminary. A prosecutor may decline it, change it, or file a different charge. A court may later dismiss the case, acquit the accused, approve deferred adjudication, or enter a conviction. Lavaca County does not publish a single archive that joins every report, booking, magistration paper, court file, and DPS cycle. A sound check follows the event from its source.
The official Lavaca County Sheriff page identifies the jail and links the Lavaca County inmate-search route.
That official page is the durable starting point when the jail system's numeric web address is hard to reach or changes behavior.
Lavaca County Jail Search Fields
Lavaca County's sheriff-linked jail system supports three useful approaches. A name box offers suggestions after two characters. A charge box can browse by charge description, and a Days control can look across recent admissions. Readers can also open all inmates or all charges. Results offer column filters and an Admit Date control. This makes the roster useful for present or recent custody, but it is not a full historical arrest index.
The visible inmate table lists full name, age, race, sex, and admit date. Its detail view can separate first, middle, and last name and show the primary charge and court type. A profile may add admit time, physical traits, arresting agency, confining agency, charge, offense date, charging agency, court date, bond, and bond type. The inspected profile did not show a public booking number, warrant number, release date, sentence, or probation details.
Note: Reach the numeric Lavaca County jail portal through the sheriff page, then call the jail if the direct endpoint does not load.
How to Look Up Lavaca County Arrests
Start with the channel closest to the event, then move forward in time. The jail can confirm intake. The creating agency holds its report. The proper clerk shows whether a prosecutor filed the charge. Texas DPS provides a broader statewide product, but its public search is limited to reported convictions and deferred adjudications rather than every Lavaca County arrest.
- Follow the Lavaca County Jail Inmate Search from the sheriff page. Search by name, charge, or recent days, and read arresting agency separately from confining agency.
- Call the Lavaca County jail at 361-798-2420 if a recent intake is missing or the web roster is down. Use VINELink for custody-change notices.
- Ask the arresting agency for its arrest or offense report. Lavaca County Sheriff records require a written request with valid state-issued identification.
- Trace a felony filing to the Lavaca County District Clerk, a Class A or B misdemeanor to the Lavaca County Clerk, and a fine-only matter to the relevant municipal or justice court.
- Use the Texas DPS Criminal History Conviction Name Search for reported statewide conviction or deferred outcomes, or fingerprint review when checking your own fuller DPS history.
For a later sentence, search the state prison system rather than assuming the person remains in the Lavaca County Jail. Federal custody uses a separate federal locator. Each change in custody can move the record to a new government system.
Lavaca County Arrest Agency Routes
Lavaca County does not pool all police reports at the sheriff's office. The county's open-record guidance directs city police material back to the department that created it. Hallettsville Police is at 104 E Fourth and can be reached at 361-798-3683. Moulton Police is at 102 S Main, 361-596-4621. Shiner Police is at 810 N Avenue E, 361-594-2831. Yoakum Police is at 808 US Hwy 77A South, 361-293-5234. A constable record stays with the actual precinct that maintains it.
This split matters when an agency brings someone to the Lavaca County jail. The booking profile can name one agency as the arresting agency and another as the confining agency. Request the narrative from the first one. Seek intake and custody material from the second. None of the four city police departments advertises a public daily arrest blotter, so a missing city log is not evidence that no arrest occurred.
What an Arrest Record Shows
A Lavaca County arrest report and a jail profile overlap, but they are not copies of each other. The report can identify when and where the alleged event occurred, the arresting officer or agency, the legal basis for custody, the alleged offense, property or evidence, and a narrative. The booking profile records intake and custody facts. The following inventory tracks only fields confirmed in the Lavaca County research.
| Admit Date and Time | The date and time recorded at intake into Lavaca County Jail. |
|---|---|
| Physical Description | Race, sex, height, weight, eye color, and hair color may appear. |
| Agency Fields | Arresting agency and confining agency appear as distinct fields. |
| Charge Details | Charge, offense date, charging agency, court type, and court date. |
| Bond | The displayed bond amount and bond type tied to the listed charge. |
| Booking Photograph | A photograph can appear in the official profile; no arrestee photos are republished here. |
| Fields Not Observed | No public booking number, warrant number, release date, sentence, or probation detail was observed. |
Read the field date and source before drawing a conclusion. A charge row reflects what the jail had at that moment, while the court file controls the later filed case and outcome.
Lavaca County Booking-to-Court Trail
One Lavaca County arrest can produce four government records in sequence. The arresting agency creates a report. The jail creates the booking entry, photograph, and fingerprint transaction. A magistrate creates Article 15.17 warnings and bond papers without unnecessary delay, generally within 48 hours. If the prosecutor moves forward, the correct Lavaca County clerk opens a case file with the charging paper, docket events, judgment, and sentence.
The basic flow is: Arrest Report → Jail Booking → Magistration → Prosecutor Review → Clerk Case File → DPS Disposition Reporting.
Class B-or-higher fingerprint events enter the DPS reporting chain. The Lavaca County court and other justice agencies then report dispositions under Chapter 66. A lag, missing fingerprint, or mismatch can leave gaps. When the final result matters, compare the jail profile with the Lavaca County criminal court case file instead of treating the first charge as the last word.
Recent Arrests and Booking Logs
The Days search is Lavaca County's verified recent-booking view. It accepts a number of days and displays admissions that match the portal's current data. Name and charge search offer other routes. An observed page-size setting showed 100 results, but that interface value is not jail capacity and should not be read as an arrest count. No export, account requirement, published update schedule, or express result limit was visible during inspection.
If a recent intake has not appeared, call 361-798-2420. VINELink can supply custody-change notifications through the site linked by the sheriff. For older booking material or a field the portal omits, send a written request to the Sheriff's Records Unit. Selected official press posts may describe enforcement, but they are not complete booking logs.
Absence from today's roster proves little about past custody. A person may have been released, transferred, booked under data that does not match the search, or held by another county. Yoakum spans Lavaca and DeWitt counties, so the arrest location, agency, receiving jail, and named court all matter.
Lavaca County Arrest Custody Transfers
The county jail holds a local custody population. Texas Department of Criminal Justice records sentenced state prisoners, while the Federal Bureau of Prisons covers federal custody. Those systems do not replace the Lavaca County booking record. They answer where a person may be held after a later transfer or sentence.
The TDCJ Online Inmate Search accepts a last name for the name route and can also use first name, TDCJ number, SID number, gender, and race.
TDCJ results may add location, offense, and projected release facts that the Lavaca County jail profile does not show.
For a federal sentence, the official Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator uses a name or federal identifying number.
A federal locator result belongs to a different custody system and should not be mistaken for the county's arrest narrative or booking archive.

Arrests vs Convictions
An arrest record shows an accusation and a custody event. A conviction record shows a court's adjudication of guilt. Lavaca County agencies create the arrest and booking layers, while the court enters the judgment and DPS receives reportable outcomes. Bond does not prove guilt, and a release does not state how the charge ended.
| Point | Arrest Record | Conviction Record |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Arresting agency and jail | Court, then reported to DPS |
| What it establishes | An arrest or booking occurred | The court entered a guilty outcome |
| Local source | Agency report and jail profile | District, county, municipal, or justice court file |
| Possible ending | Release, no filing, or a later case | Sentence and any appeal or later restriction order |
A dismissed arrest can remain visible unless it qualifies for expunction and a court enters the order. Nondisclosure is a separate form of restricted release. Check official source records before relying on old data.
Note: An arrest is not proof of guilt, and a booking may never lead to a filed charge or conviction.
